S7HS Safe use of the woodturning lathe

This Nationally accredited practical course will provide:

  • Support staff/Premises Staff

In Design and Technology Departments ‘initial training’ on the Specialist Extension Level: S7HS Wood Turning Lathe

During the day you will undertake a number of exercises, including turning between centres and using faceplates and chucks. This course will familiarise teachers and technicians with the Design and Technology Association Specialist Extension Level Training Standards for the Wood Turning Lathe (S7HS) and prepare you to teach students how to turn safely.

Machines to be used are Union Graduate and Axminster Jet wood turning lathes

You will receive by email, a course pack covering current legislation and the knowledge, skills and understanding required to safely use this range of woodworking machinery in schools. If you have recently completed the D&TA ‘Core’ Elements Training, and have submitted your portfolio of evidence, you will be able to add this unit to your D&TA accreditation.

Please note – Certification is valid for a period of 5 years.

Please also Note – There is no requirement to pay the accreditation if you just want to do some woodturning, just book a place and come along and have some fun.
